Kolo Toure has revealed that he turned down lucrative offers to go to the Turkish League this summer to stay at City and fight for his place.

The Ivorian international defender was Vincent Kompany’s first choice partner until his ban last season when he was displaced by Joleon Lescott.

According to the Manchester Evening News, now that Matija Nastasic has come in, Kolo is beginning to fear he’s being pushed ever further down the pecking order.

“I feel I can still get into the team,” he said.

“Ask anybody – every day at training I give everything. Joleon and Vincent have been fantastic and deserve their place, but it’s much harder when a young player comes and steps in front of you.

“It’s hard, but that is the  manager’s choice and what can I do? I need to work hard, and that is alright by me.

“Sometimes I am not on the bench and that is not easy, but it’s up to me to prove to the manager that I am still one of the best.

“There were other clubs in for me in the summer, but I love England.

“Some good Turkish clubs came in with good offers but I want to stay at the top, play in the Premier League and prove I am still one of the best defenders out there.”

...Kolo Toure...

“Since I came back from the problem I had I have been fourth choice every time, and that has been really difficult. It is hard to come in and give your best,” he said.

Meanwhile John Guidetti has rubbished reports that he was ever bullied by Patrick Vieira and Kolo Toure at City.

John Guidetti

“John Guidetti has dismissed reports in which he claimed that he was bullied and spat at by team-mates at Manchester City," wrote James Ducker in The Times.

“The Sweden forward was alleged to have singled out Patrick Vieira, and Kolo Touré, for criticism in an interview with a Swedish talk show due to be aired this weekend.”

Guidetti didn't just dismiss these rumours - he slammed them, taking to Twitter to set the record straight.

“Annoying!!!! Plz everybody note that I have never been spat on by anyone at the club, nor has my family ever been disrespected by the club,” he tweeted.

“And just 2 make it clear kolo and Patric are 2 to nicest peapole I have meet taken care of me soo good! Nothing but love 4 them.

“Get real people! “

In other news, Roberto Mancini has ruled out a return to Inter Milan on an Italian radio station, according to Sky Sports.

"I had a great time at Inter, but now it's the time for younger coaches," Mancini told Radio 2 Rai.

"And you have to have a little more patience. If you change a lot of players you cannot think to change coach if there are two bad games."

Finally, Sergio Aguero has returned to the Argentina squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Chile in October. Pablo Zabaleta also makes the squad but there’s still no place for Carlos Tevez.
